A meeting of musical minds and hearts

"De Vez Em Quando"

“De Vez Em Quando” means “Once in a While”. This is what happens when sometimes 2 musicians get together for the first time ever and start playing without any preconceived idea or plan. Five years ago I met the Swiss drummer Pius Baschnagel at the Zürich University of the Arts. We went to his studio and just started playing together. My wife Luzia Grob dos Santos filmed our encounter. Here we are playing one of my compositions, titled De Vez Em Quando, without any chart or arrangement:

Now, five years later, I am going to play with Pius and Brazilian bassist Dudu Penz in Zürich next week at . We will also work with the students at the University on a masterclass this Monday. The seeds of musical collaboration sometimes take a while to sprout, but that’s the beauty of music - it is timeless and at the same time ephemeral.
