Hello folks,
We all love music, don’t we? Somehow most people take it for granted. Maybe they think that good music is created out of thin air, because after all it is invisible. It’s not like a painting or a sculpture that we can purchase and put up on a pedestal. We even have a word, streaming, that assumes that there is a free stream of music flowing through your devices just to make the soundtrack of your life. The truth is that Music is indeed made of thin air, but the process of music creation is made of hard work, a lifetime of experience, technological needs and many, many hours of work.
As a music creator, I am aware that the potential to make a living out of this work has been undermined by the power of huge corporations that use the basic biological need for music to sell stuff (not music). Instead of complaining about something that I don’t have the power to change, I suggest to my friends and followers that once in a while they support the creating of music by purchasing a CD (remember those?) or by acquiring a high-quality audio file from Bandcamp. A lot of my records are there in streaming platforms (not by my choice), but on my Bandcamp site you will find music of many colors and textures that is otherwise not available. Check it out… Today is Bandcamp Friday, which means that all the proceeds from music sales will go to the artist, and not to some rich dude who doesn’t care at all about music. Your choice.
If you still enjoy the ritual of listening to an album on CD, my website has several for sale. I will sign and ship them myself to you, and of course my gratitude will flow endlessly towards your generosity.
Thanks for being aware of the process and the product of musical creativity. It is much appreciated!
Obrigado,
Jovino
