There is a place in music where different traditions overlap, and it is very enjoyable to create in that space. Here I am with the fantastic percussionist Ami Molinelli playing my composition Pontapé, which combines the groove of the Brazilian baião with the chord changes of the blues. The syncopation of the groove inspired me to name this piece after a soccer kick (pontapé), with its resulting spin and effect.
I am performing this week around the Bay Area with Ami and bassist Peter Barshay. You can check out our schedule on my social media platforms. Join us if possible!
There is also a workshop tomorrow morning (Sunday, April 30) at 11AM at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley.
Enjoy!
