Back in October 2023 my Quinteto, with Ben Thomas (vibraphone, bandoneon), Tim Carey (electric bass), Mark Ivester (drums), Jeff Busch (percussion) and myself (piano, melodica) played a concert at The Royal Room in Seattle. That gig was recorded, and out of that recording I selected this composition, Trio de Quatro and mixed it with the invaluable help of Michael Shanks. We will eventually release it to the world on my Bandcamp page, but I am presenting it here in advance for my paid subscribers.
In this world where music is compressed into bite-sized clips and time runs like a downhill truck without brakes, I understand it is a challenge to listen to 9 minutes of a live performance. However, for those who are willing to take that challenge, the perspective of witnessing a narrative that unfolds and the spontaneous interactions among band members hopefully becomes a healing experience.
