Here’s a taste of our performance last night at Boxley’s, an intimate venue in the mountain town of North Bend, WA. The JSN Quinteto, with Ben Thomas on vibraphone, Kelsey Mines on bass, Mark Ivester on drums and Jeff Busch on percussion plays my composition Trio de Quatro, a samba in 3/4 time that becomes a 7/4 at the end. This kind of open improvisation over a pedal vamp gives us many ways to explore sonorities, grooves and textures.
