In 1994 I composed a crazy choro that went back and forth between modal pedal-based chords and a more traditional melodic/harmonic choro approach. I called it Metamorph because of the changes. I was going to title it Metaform, but it sounded a bit too abstract.
In 1996 I was playing this tune using electronic keyboards with Fourth World (Airto Moreira, drums and percussion; Flora Purim, voice; José Neto, guitar; Gary Brown, bass). This is a clip of Metamorph from the Jazz à Vienne Festival in France. Please note how Flora sings that very complex melody with ease and flow. She learned the whole tune by ear:
I also recorded it that same year on acoustic piano with my Quarteto with Hans Teuber on woodwinds, Chuck Deardorf on bass, Mark Ivester on drums and Airto Moreira on percussion. It is a track from our first album, Caboclo. Here is the track. Notice Hans’ beautiful soprano sax solo:
I hope you will enjoy it. Please share and comment!

Chévere! Jovino.
I'll say! So it never would have occurred to me to think "ah yes, a choro..." What about it makes it a choro, when your average gringo-musician-on-the-street would think, say, samba? (Kind of goes back to questions I had about those tunes I sent you a while back)
