I'll say! So it never would have occurred to me to think "ah yes, a choro..." What about it makes it a choro, when your average gringo-musician-on-the-street would think, say, samba? (Kind of goes back to questions I had about those tunes I sent you a while back)
Rural samba existed before choro, and urban samba came after choro. The section with a lot of notes is a choro, with hardly any syncopation in the melody. Other sections bounce off the steady pedal. Those are more like samba.
Ah!! Thanks Jovino! Yeah I now see I was mainly going off the rhythm section (and was also distracted by José's ultra-cool guitar). Now to go back and listen again, and maybe some of the stuff from your online classes will make it all the way into my poor brain. :o)
